ShotgunMic with Directional Sound Pickup
Whereas most built-in camera microphonespick up sound from all directions, this microphone utilizes a supercardioidpolar pattern to focus on sound in front of it while attenuating sound from thesides and rear. Its low-noise electronics and sensitive condenser elementdeliver more detailed audio than the mics typically found in cameras andportable recorders.
EasyHookup to Camera
A straight 3.5mm cable is permanentlyattached to the mic for fast hookup to your camera. The cable's 3.5mm TRS plugis wired in a dual-mono configuration, ensuring that the mic signal is sentidentically to both input channels of your camera or portable recorder.
LongBattery Life
Pop a 9V battery in the VideoMic Pro for upto 70 hours of operating time. The dedicated power LED changes from green tored when the battery should be replaced. The VideoMic Pro can still functionfor approximately 10 hours once the power indicator turns red, but performancewill be compromised. Use the power switch to conserve battery life duringperiods of inactivity.
BassRoll-Off
The high-pass filter can be set to flat or80 Hz to roll off low-frequency noise from common sources such as airconditioners and traffic.
3-StageGain Control
To enable optimal recording levels, theVideoMic Pro boasts a 3-stage gain control. Like the low roll-off andhigh-frequency boost, the gain control is digitally switched for precision andconvenience. The +20 dB setting is ideal when recording to cameras, as itboosts the signal without requiring extreme gain on the camera's inferiorpreamp. Select the flat setting when routing the mic into a dedicatedhigh-quality preamp, or switch to the -10 dB option when loud sound sourcesthreaten to distort your recording.
IntegratedShockmount Inhibits Vibrations
Understanding that the rubber bands used inmany shockmounts can snap and stretch, Rode chose to integrate a rugged RycoteLyre suspension-style shockmount. This simplifies setup of the mic and inhibitsthe transfer of vibrations from the camera. Plus, the bottom of the shockmountfeatures a camera shoe mount with a 3/8" thread, ensuring easy attachmentto your camera or a boompole such as Rode's Micro Boompole (availableseparately).
WindscreenMinimizes Wind Noise
The VideoMic Pro has a foam windscreen toreduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners.For maximum reduction of wind noise in outdoor environments, consider a furrywindshield such as the Rode DeadCat VMPR (available separately).
ConnectivityOptions
Expand the microphone's devicecompatibility with Rode accessories such as the SC4 and VXLR (both availableseparately). The SC4 is a short cable that lets you connect the VideoMic Prodirectly to a smartphone or tablet equipped with a 3.5mm TRRS jack. The VXLRadapter is the ideal solution when you want to record the VideoMic Pro to acamcorder or mixer that has XLR inputs.
